1- University of Tripoli

University of Tripoli (UoT) is a public institution located in Tripoli, the capital city of Libya. It is the largest institution of higher education in the country, that was founded and established by a Royal Decree on December 15, 1955 as a branch under the University of Libya. In 1973, it became independent and was named the University of Tripoli. It now has 6 campuses over an area of more than 300 hectares in various location at the heart and outskirts of Tripoli. It enjoys about half a million square meters of newly development buildings that are currently under construction. The UoT includes 20 faculties with 160 departments; in addition to 82 specialized sections. Students at the UoT graduate with undergraduate and postgraduate (including PhDs in 12 majors) degrees. The University also has Research Centers, Language Center,  Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center, & Sustainable Development Center. The total number of students as for 2017/2018 is 75,877 in which 2.27% (1,644) of them are foreign students. It has more than 3300 staff members and around 2000 teaching assistants. Moreover, it has more than 5000 administrative and technical staff that work for a variety of faculties, centers and other administrations across the university’s campuses covering Tripoli and its neighbouring cities. 2- University of Benghazi

University of Benghazi (UoB) is a public university based in the city of Benghazi, the second largest city in Libya. It is the first university in Libya, where the late king Idris founded it on December 15, 1955, as the University of Libya. In 1973, it split to the University of Benghazi, and its branch in Tripoli to the University of Tripoli.  The University of Benghazi includes 31 faculties, more than 232 departments, and 11 research centers, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses including medical, engineering, literature, sciences, and economics. UoB strives to spread knowledge and reach as many students as possible where approximately 85,000 undergraduate students and 3000 graduate students are currently enrolled and studying at the different UoB campuses. The two main campuses of UoB are in the city of Benghazi, the Garyounis campus with a total area of about 500 hectares, and the medical colleges’ campus. Beside these two compasses, UoB, the university is to reach as many students by covering a large area, where it has branches and compasses in Al-Kufra, Gameness, Al-Marj, Slouq, Al-Abyar, Toukra, and Al-Wahat. Officially accredited and recognized by the Ministry of Education in Libya. UoB has about 3500 teaching staff and 7500 admin staff. This 65 years old institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades.

3- University of Sebha

Sabha University is a public university in the southern city of Sabha, Libya, with campuses in Sabha, Awbari, Murzuq, Brak, and Ghat. The beginning of Sebha University was in 1976 when the Faculty of Education had been founded as a branch of the University of Tripoli and nucleus for Sebha University later. Sebha University was founded as an independent university in 1983 and included in the beginning both of Faculties of Education and Sciences. Then the Faculties of Medicine, Agriculture, Science of Engineering, Technology, Economics and Accounting were added to Sebha University. So the number of university faculties reached to nineteen faculties located in various areas in the South. The number of students studying in Sebha University until 2016 was (25726) students.

About University of Misurata

Misurata University is a public Higher Education Institution in Libya and considered as one of the largest universities in the country. It was established in 1983 and has about 3,700 staff members; 1,210 of whom are faculty members and 655 teacher assistants beside around 1,820 administrative staff. With 17 faculties, the university offers more than 60 undergraduate programs with around 16,550 students and 20 postgraduate programs with about 900 students.  5- University of Zawia

The University of Zawia (ZU), established in 1988, is a governmental scientific institution specialized in higher education and scientific research. It aims to build an institution to operate according to the highest national and international standards in research and teaching, and prepare qualified under/post-graduates to respond to the needs of the society.

The ZU contains 27 faculties and provides a bachelor programs in Sports, Engineering, Arts, Science, Economics and Political Science, Education, Medical Technology, Dental, Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursery, Law and Natural Resources and Information Technology. The number of students is (32147) undergraduate students and (1630) postgraduate students, with (1350) teaching staff and (3300) non-academic staff.

As result of its strategy of Internationalisation the University is involved in many projects under the umbrella of Tempus and Erasmus+, such as Al Idrissi, UNetBA, ENROL, EuNIT, INSTART, ENBRAIN, PAgES, SAHA, IBTIKAR and other projects.

6- Elmergib University

Elmergib University was founded in 1991, it is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the city of Al Khums (120 km east of Tripoli). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Libya, It is a coeducational higher education institution. It also has campuses in the cities of Algarabouli, Mesallata, and Qasr Khiyar. The university offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. There are approximately 18308 full time national students and 212 overseas students enrolled at the university [year-2020]. Students are distributed into 22 faculties across various locations, covering the fields of engineering, medicine, arts, sciences, economics, education, archaeology and tourism, pharmacology, law, public health, information technology, languages, Sharia sciences, physical education, dentistry, agriculture, and veterinary medicine. The language of instruction is Arabic, but the university offers courses taught in English in the fields of medicine, engineering, basic silences, information technology, and medical technology. It has 1531 academic staff, and 1538 employees distributed between the faculties and the university main building. The University is a member of the Arab Universities Union since 2004, and of the Mediterranean Universities Union since 2018. It is also a member of the United Nations Academic Impact initiative since June 2019.

7- Sirte University

The university was founded as a branch of the  University of Garyounis (now know n as the  University of Benghazi ) in the year 1989. In 1992, it became an autonomous institution and was then known as Al Tahadi University which was later re named as Sirte University (SU) in 2010. Since it gained its autonomous status, the university has been continuously expanding and has become one of well recognized higher education institutions in Libya. Starting off with a f ew schools
and academic departments, the university has at present 10 different schools with more than 10000 students. The university currently employs about 600 full time teaching staff members and 53 are contractual foreign staff from Arab and non Arab countries. The university also employs about 1750 non academic staff in different departments and offices across the university. The university is also trying to enhance self learning and research culture among its students by building a new and a compreh ensive library with more than 100000 resource materials. The university has also established a Languages Centre in a hope of improving the standards of English Language among its students and to provide pre sessional English courses for students who have awa rded scholarships to do their masters and PhD degrees abroad.

8- Al-Asmariya University

Al-Asmarya Islamic University is a public university and its main campus was inaugurated in 1995 in the Center of Zliten City locating on the Mediterranean coast 160km east of the Libyan Capital (Tripoli) and Zliten population is about 280,000 people. (AIU) has 19 faculties, 15 faculties are in Zliten area while other 4 faculties are in the areas of Misallata, Ubari and Sabha. 9- University of Zintan

University of Zintan was established by the Council of Ministers of the Government of National Accord in 2017. The University of Zintan includes many colleges in the area extending from Shwerf in  the south to Tij i in the north, and from Yafran in the east to Derj in the west.  The university's colleges are distributed as follows: Faculties of Human Medicine, Engineering, Sciences, Medicine, Dental Surgery, Law, Education and Information Technology, all of which are located in Zintan, College of Education in Yafran, college of Accounting in Rajban, Colleges of Education, Economics and Political Science in Tiji, College of Arts in Badr, College of Natural Resources at Al Har a ba, College of Agriculture, Education and college of medical technology in Rayyaina, the College of Arts and Sciences in Tabqa, the College of Education in Der j , and the College of Education in Shweirf.  Currently, there are 6481 students and 640 teaching staff members in the University.

11- Libyan International Medical University

Libyan International Medical University (LIMU) is a private university that is located in the heart of Benghazi city; the second biggest city in Libya. LIMU has been established in the year 2007 by a decree that was reached by the Ministry of Higher Education in Libya. The Libyan International Medical University obtained a classification of initial approval by the National Center for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Higher Education institutions.  LIMU faculties include; Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Basic Medical Science, Information Technology and Business Administration. 12- Sabratha University

The University profile
Sabratha University is one of Libyan public universities. It was established in 2015 in the city of Sabratha, Libya, with 5 campuses spread throughout cities on the west coast of the capital Tripoli. It consists of colleges, some of which date back to 1992. Some of the colleges were affiliated to Zawia University until the issuance of the Council of Ministers Resolution No. 157 of 2015. To establish the University of Sabratha and to separate these colleges and determine their dependence on the University of Sabratha.
The university's colleges are distributed as follows: Faculties of Human Medicine, Engineering, Sciences, Art all of these are located in Sabratha city. Faculties of medical technology, Economics, Political Science, Law, Dental Medicine, nursing, and languages, all of these are located in Surman city. 13- Omar Al-Mukhtar University

Omar Al-Mukhtar University (OMU) is a public institution located in Bayda, precisely in Jabal al Akhdar, Libya. It is the third-largest university in Libya after the University of Tripoli and the University of Benghazi. It started its academic processions with the faculty of agriculture in 1975. This faculty was the first building block and the cornerstone of this university that could race time incredibly and flourish its scientific pillars. OMU has campuses in the cities of Quba, Derna, Shahhat and Susah. The OMU officially offers courses and programs leading to recognize higher education degrees in several fields of study. The university currently employs about 1800 full-time Libyan teaching staff members and also employs 50 (2.77%) of them are foreign staff from Arabic and non-Arabic countries. The total number of undergraduate students enrolled at the university for the academic year 2019/2020 is roughly 10103 and enrolled 6.17% (588) are international students. Students were distributed into 172 departments out of 31 faculties across various locations, which are covering the fields of arts, agriculture, veterinary, sciences, engineering, economics, education, languages, law, tourism and archaeology, natural resources and environmental science, medicine, nursing, medical technology, pharmacy and dental surgery. In addition, there are more than 1005 postgraduate students who registered at different fields of studies.
The University also has research consultations centers, these centers are research and archaeological studies center, languages center, information and documentation center and computer service center. The OMU Library has played its role in supporting the University’s teaching, learning, and research activities. The library actively provides a vast collection of reference materials for learning as well as additional reading materials for students and lecturers. The university has established a number of peer-reviewed journals that covered a wide range of disciplines such as Al-Mukhtar journal of economic science, al-Mukhtar journal of social science, Libyan journal of basic sciences, Al-Mukhtar journal of sciences, Al- Mukhtar journal of engineering research, and Al-Mukhtar journal of veterinary sciences. 14- Ajdabya University

Despite the fact that it has only been founded in 2000, the University of Ajdabiya has an outstanding reputation as an institution that provides students with a quality education in the "oil gulf region" of Libya. With it's 9 faculties and 48 working departments, the University of Ajdabiya accommodates over 15000 undergraduate students and 900 teaching staff. Due to it's unique location in the middle of Libya, 960 kms to the east of the capital, Tripoli on the southern coastline of the Mediterranean, it provides educational services to students from a large portion of the country. It extends from Ras lanouf to Sultan and deep into the southern areas of Jalu and Alkufra in a total area of approximately 250000 km2. 16- Brigth Star University

Brigth Star University was considered the premier technical university in Libya and was composed of five scientific departments. The university was established on 25 November 1981 as Bright Star Technical University in Brega providing high-level education about petroleum engineering and minerals, electronics and petroleum geology. It was renamed to the College of Petroleum Technology in Brega. The duration of the study by 5 years ends with the granting of bachelor's degree, The University is located in the region of Brega, an area where there is a large oil port Under Sirte Oil Company. BSU recently opened a co llege of aviation sciences on December 10, 2019.

17- The University of Tobruk

The University Of Tobruk (UT) is an officially recognized public higher education institution based in Tobruk in East Libya. . The University of Tobruk was established on 28/09/ 1991 as The Faculty of Social Science –Omar Al Mukhtar University. Since then a number of faculties have been established. Based on a resolution by the government in 2016, it was officially founded under the name of The University of Tobruk.  The university has also a main scientific research center and language center. Due to its unique location in the Far East, it provides higher education for students in an area of around 83000 m2. 18- Banı Waleed UNIVERSITY

Bani-Waleed University was established in 2002 as the Faculty of Education/Sirt University.  A number other Faculties were added in the following years following different universities (Sitt University, Misurata University, Azzaytouna University).  The latest resolution (Jan. 2016) by the Government of national accord/Tripoli is to rename it as Bani-Walid University to be an independent university consisting of ten faculties (Arts, Education, Engineering, Economics, Science, Law, Agriculture.....ect).

20- University of The Islamic university of Asaied Mohamed Bin Ali Alsanussi (IUS)

University of The Islamic university of Asaied Mohamed Bin Ali Alsanussi (IUS) was a religious institution founded in the city of Abayda on November 30th 1952 . and to accordance with the Royal Decree issued on October 29, 1961, it became The Islamic university of Asaied Mohamed Bin Ali Alsanussi . The nucleus of its colleges was the College of Sharia , Usul Aldiyn ( the College of Fundamentals of Religion) , the College of Arabic Language and the department of Graduate Studies , and it included a number of religious institutes and Quranic schools distributed over various Libyan regions and cities. In 1970, the university was canceled by the council of ministers, and was activated after four decades in 2012 by the minister of higher Education and scientific research (No. 941) . currently, it has six colleges holding about 4000 students , 240 teaching stuff ,and 220teaching assistant as for (2018-2019) (the College of law and Sharia , Usul Aldiyn ( the College of Religion Fundamentals ) , the College of Arabic Language and the College of History and civilization , the Islamic Economics and Administration , the Islamic Studies college for females with more than 22 departments and two centers ( the scientific research and consulting center– the languages center ) and also the administration of high studies and training.

21- Libyan Academy for Graduate Studies

Established in 1988, Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies is a non-profit public higher-education institution located in the metropolis of Tripoli (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). This institution also has branch campuses in the following locations: Benghazi, Misurata. Officially recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Libya, Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies is a very small (uniRank enrollment range: 1,000-1,999 students) coeducational Libyan higher education institution. Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study.
