University of Benghazi

University of Benghazi (UoB) is a public university based in Benghazi, the second largest city in Libya. It is the first university in Libya, where the late king Idris founded it on December 15, 1955, as the University of Libya. In 1973, it split to the University of Benghazi, and University of Tripoli.

The comprehensive university offering PhD, Master, and undergraduate programs in different specialties. These including; medical, engineering, literature, sciences, and economics. It includes 31 faculties, more than 230 departments, and six several research centers all committed to undertake research to educate, innovate and transform in order to solve community problems and improve the quality of life in society.

 UoB strives to spread knowledge and reach, as many students as possible where approximately 85,000 undergraduate students and 3000 graduate students are currently enrolled and studying at different UoB compasses. In each campus there are modern and innovative facilities, creating a balance between learning and creativity.

The two main compasses of UoB are located in Benghazi city ; the Garyounis campus, and the medical colleges’ campus. Beside these two compasses, the university is to reach as many students by covering a large area, where it has branches and compasses in eastern and southern cities including: Al-Kufra, Gameness, Al-Marj, Slouq, Al-Abyar, Toukra, Al-Wahat.  It is officially accredited and recognized by the Ministry of Education in Libya. And many of its academic programs are working to gain the international accreditation like WFME (World Federation for Medical Education).

UoB has about 3500 teaching staff and 7500 admin staff. The 65 years old institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students’ past academic record and grades.

UoB provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students and community including libraries, accommodation, sport facilities and activities. Furthermore, UoB offers financial aid, internal scholarships, and scholarships for its staff to study abroad, and exchange programs.
